This May, I was fortunate enough to spend 5 gorgeous days exploring, creating, and teaching in Leelanau County, thanks to one of my longtime stockists, Two Fish Gallery. In honor of my mom, who used to always ask for the "top 3 things" about any trip, here's a "best of" compilation from my residency:
Best coffee: Little Boat in Leland - bonus points for cute logo
Best meal: tie between sandwiches from The Village Cheese Shanty (the North Shore) and Fiddleheads (the Motown Rachel)
Best hikes: Pyramid Point mid-morning and Empire Bluffs at sunset
Anxious moment: solo time watching the sunset at Grand Traverse Lighthouse and worrying that a man was going to appear out of nowhere and bash me over the head with the large rocks on the shore
Proud moment: overcame *maybe* fear of eating alone (Is everyone staring at me? Does that guy want to talk to me? Why did this gin & tonic cost $18?)
Best purchase: linen overalls from Cottonseed in Glen Arbor
Unexpected highlight: got a last-minute ticket to see a singer-songwriter who I'd never heard of and was blown away by his storytelling & music. Shout out to the incredible Jon Muq and the Old Art Building for a fantastic end to my trip.
This was only the second solo work trip I've ever taken and I hope to have many more in my future. Many thanks to my host Jenn, the sweet students in my workshops, and everyone who contributes to the beauty of Leelanau County!
